Evening Cupidfish members. Alright, here is my situation, I’ve caught plenty of catfish, all at night, but problem is, there is a reservoir in near my house which is controlled by the state of Massachusetts. It is governed by strict rules, one of which is the reservoir is open only from 1 hour after dawn til 1 hour before dusk. I could probably get away with just going there and fishing at night, but in the off chance I get caught I really don’t feel like paying the fine(s). Are there any special patterns , baits, and depths that catfish use during the day?
Thanks,
KC

I don’t know to much about Mass laws, but here in Ohio we use live blue gills and when they die we cut the head off behind the eyes ,there something about the eyes they go after.
I wouls start to look for deep pockets in your lake fish those first. Any shady area will do also. I would look for sandbars, rocky areas(if they are spawning, and log jams or any structure that can provide cover including trees. I would stick with cut bait because I have a feeling you can only catch channels in your state.Try to fish as much as possible towards mid-late afternoon. I noticed I caught more during that time besides night.
Good luck have fun..
I’ve caught a ton of catfish during the day using dip-baits in a few of the lakes near me. It seems like the fishing is best when it is raining during the day and caught a lot of fish have come from 7-10 ft off the shore. This is how I set up my dip-baits on a 24-30 inch leader tied to a heavy duty swivel with a 1 ounce sliding sinker above the swivel on the main line. In my friends pond, we catch more catfish on spinnerbaits than we do on any of the standard catfish baits that we have tried. Gotta love 7 lb cats on a light spinning rod
