The types of crappie in Texas

Monday, May 31st, 2010
What are the different types of crappie in Texas. I am new to the State and live on Sam Rayburn Lake  and yesterday I was fishing in freshwater and caught a fish that was about 1.2 pounds, 8 inches and looked like a crappie or huge bluegill but was blue and it had a red tail. if anyone can help me figure out what it was I’d greatly appreciate it.

Garage sale fishing

garage sale fishing During the Spring and early summer I get out on the water as much as I can, but another form of fishing I enjoy is garage sale fishing. I do this on the  weekends and I find great tackle and gear (lot’s of junk too) for almost nothing. Just yesterday, I found two nice fishing rods for a dollar apiece, 7 fishing reels for under 10  dollars, and a bunch of lures, and supplies for a dollar. My wife said I didn’t need any more fishing stuff, but some of it is better than some of my gear now (which I plan on replacing), and you can never have too many lures! I already fixed the 2 poles with the 2 best reels, and have another nice trout pole, and another nice catfish pole. Does anyone else do this on this forum? Post on what you found?

Regards,

Jerry

Crappie Fishing tips needed

Saturday, May 29th, 2010
Hey all thought i’d ask a question and need some crappie fishing tips. So what is the best method when fishing crappies in shallow murky (really murky) water for crappies and were is the best place to fish for them? Also, what other good fish are good to fish for in that type of water? I’ve been dealing with a lot of carp and bullheads and other nuisance/trash fish like that. Thanks- Larry in Memphis TN

I can be a professional angler

professional angler
I really think I can be a professional angler. I believe I’m a knowledgeable freshwater fisherman and want to locate a sponsor. My idol in the fishing world is Hank Parker and Bill Dance. Anyone have a lead or tips? I would love to find a sponsor that will put me in a boat and let me represent them in the freshwater tournament fishing world. A dream come true for me. Any advice on getting my first sponsor?

Mans best friend problems

LabradorBlackLabShelby

Hello all I joined and like how the people on this site help each other with all things fishing and some dating. I thought I would ask a serious question for the guys here about “Mans best friend” ie.’ your dog. My new boy friend/date and I have been active for the last year and a half.  I have two children and he has a lab and recently, we have been spending all our time together with his dog. I’ve notice he is real close to his dog.
Now here is the problem for me, because he has lived with his dog as if it were a person. He slept with her, takes here everywhere in the car, goes home on his lunch hour to be with her and feeds her at the table. He has baby books of her, lab books, magnets and signs saying things like “an outfit is not complete without dog hair”. I love her and she is a sweet animal, and have been trying to accept her as part of the family and enjoy the fun parts of having a dog, and he has made accomodations for me as well, like having her sleep in the living room when they are over and not letting her get on the couch and trying to brush her and deal with the constant shedding.
But more recently I have felt that he treats the dog better than us. When we hug/kiss if the dog is around, she wines/whimpers and has to be in the middle.  But he gets annoyed at my 9 year olds lack of table manners, which we are working on. My friends also have observed this and commented how he pays more attention to the dog then others in the room when we are all together.
I have tried to meet him halfway. We eat in pet friendly outdoor restaurants, go on walks, I puppy sat for a business trip he went on and we brought her to my family’s house for Christmas (three hours away so we would be able to spend the night). We lock up the cat when they are over. I have even booked a pet friendly get away just for the three of us and made arrangements for kids to go with my mom.
He is a loving man and is very good with the kids. But as a professional, single mother, I am finding that as much as I want to see my boyfriend and build a life, I end up feeling uncomfortable, displaced and stressed by the nature of his relationship with his dog. I don’t know if I can be with a man who is so focused on his pet, that is feels like it superceeds the other relationships.
Thanks- Kate

Walleye fishing tips needed

Thursday, May 27th, 2010
Hey all ! I need some walleye fishing tips needed in locating the types of bait needed and the gear I need to catch Walleye. I’ve been told by many anglers in my area to use a jig head and a minnow but I want to use fake bait so I don’t have to worry about keeping the bait alive and obtaining the bait before I go out there. So if I hit BassProshops what gear should I get?The lakes I fish/eat around is a murky water and right now I’m fishing at a spot that is probably 4 – 6 ‘ deep. I’ve been trying the crank bait but the past two times out there I have been skunked.

Thanks- Jerry
I need a boat because I’m stuck fishing from shore right now.

Fly fishing Alabama any good?

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010
Fly-Fishing
Good after noon CupidFish I am Jeff in Alabama! Thought I’d join and pitch a question to get myself going here. My question is for the fly fisherman on this blog. As mentioned I live in (south eastern corner) Alabama and  looking to get into Fly Fishing this summer.
I got into fly fishing about a decade ago, but I wasn’t able to free up time to do it and sold my gear. So i’m looking to start up again but i just moved to Alabama. So anyway, i am wondering about some places to try fly fishing in the south eastern corner of alabama.
Thanks all for any advice you can throw my way.

Fishing northen ontario info?

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010
It’s looking like it’s going to be a go because my work gave me some time off after 2 years of working straight. Anyway, me a some of my friends want to go on a Canadian fly fishing trip this summer. Can anyone recommend a good place. Which is better fly in or drive in? Thought I’d ask here and see that there are some nice helpful anglers. Also, if you have any information/guides etc. What gear would you recommend and we want to go fly fishing so any fly advice would be helpful. Thanks- Jeff
