Best line for my baitcaster reel

Monday, May 24th, 2010
Hello, I had a quick question too. What is the best line for my baitcaster reel? I will be fishing mostly for bass and want to possibility go for stripers and other bigger fish. I am getting the setup together now looking to get a 7ft med heavy abu vengence and I have a revo. I have 12 lb stren now but I dont like it (any suggestions?) Id like to flip and pitch with it once in a while I imagine what is good for the revo is good for the tourney special from BPS. Thanks in advance..

My first shore/surf rod reel?

Monday, May 24th, 2010
Hey all, another new member here and thought i’d also ask a question. I live on the south shore of Long Island and always go to the beach and I like to fish as-well, just have never gone shore/beach fishing. I already have an ideas for a rod 10/12 foot. Here’s the thing, I have heard mixed reviews on which are better for surf/casting. Either conventional reel or spinning reel. If I were to go with the spinning I would probably get the Black and gold Daiwa. I don’t really know my conventional. I am no newbie to fishing in general but to Surf/shore fishing I am and will be fishing for: Stripers, bluefish, weak fish, fluke, flounder, sea robins =\ a bunch more too. This will be my first shore/surf rod reel? Thanks-Anthony

Fish identification help needed

Monday, May 24th, 2010
striper Good morning CupidFish. I had a question for California Delta anglers on the type of fish I caught this morning in the California delta. It is not the best picture, but it has really rubbery lips and on its back it is blackish grey and on sides it is completely silver, I caught it on dough-bait and put up a good fight too. I don’t think  it is a striper. Any help would be appreciated

Your favorite catfish setup and bait

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010
I want to get out and go for catching catfish in a lake near my house and was wondering if anyone had any advice for catching catfish (new to catfishing), bait, type of hook, line setup etc. Also, I have seen people use different baits but the most common bait that i see work is dough bait, but the only problem is there are so many different kinds of recipes. if you have a recipe that you have tried and works I would love to try it also. In short, something simple. So whats your favorite catfish setup and or bait?

The second date and fishing?

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

bass fishing guy Hey all I hope you are having a great Sunday. Now, let me get to my question that I see has been  asked more then a few times here. I started dating a women I met (on another site) and we had a great first date over desserts and coffee. Now I am planning my second date and want to do something else other then a movie or dinner? The next date is set for the  (next) weekend and it’s too early yet, for cooking her something her at the house. Movies and dinners are so common that I just think they’re downright boring. I was thinking maybe comedy club, but if it bombs it will be awkward. I really want to take her out on my bass-boat but was thinking this might be a bit to early or she might get board with me focusing more on the bass then her ;-) . Seriously, any suggestions would be great.

Please suggest something unique and a safe bet if you could … Robert in WV.

Useless junk you bought for fishing

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010
Thought I would start a post about the useless junk I/you bought for fishing. You know, the fishing equipment/tackle you’ve acquired over the years but never use or any other tackle just collecting dust in your tackle collection? This may be some advice/use for the members here on what tackle NOT to buy or for gifts ETC.
My List:
13 ugly sticks: Got tired of breaking them so I gave them away.
NO MORE BOBBERS, PLEASE! i have enough to tie them together and make a decent fishing raft.
ANYTHING Roland Martin has endorsed: Some of fishing finest gimmicks and to be the color-c-lector, helicopter lure, but the Rocket Rod takes the cake!
What are some of yours ?

Bass fisherman turns to trout fishing

Friday, May 21st, 2010
Hello fellow anglers and single people! I will always enjoy the largmouth bass fishing, but I am starting to enjoy trout fishing here in the Central Texas lakes. Being a beginner trout angle, but a skilled Bass angler I’ll be going to the lake with a spin rod/reel. The trout that live in the lakes are not that fast moving, but there is also a lot of small fish and bluegill, has open areas and shaded areas, shallow, and deep, no obstructions except maybe a fallen tree.
Advice needed: Bait, Tackle, & Lure, Location of Trout Hiding, Time Of Day Best and Worst. Best Type of Weather: Cloudy, Partly Cloudy, Windy, Rainy, Sunny, Before Storm, After Storm, Humid, Dry etc. With the wind or against the wind when casting!

If you can help-Thanks a million!! Steve in Tyler TX

Organizing your fishing and hunting gear?

Friday, May 21st, 2010
fishing gear tackle
Hey all I thought I would post this and see what the rest of you folks are doing to get ideas from. I do not have a lot of outdoor storage space, and I do not have a garage, but I do have a spare room in the house due to kicking out my useless 26 step-son. So I am looking for some ideas for organizing my fishing/hunting gear/tackle so that it is easily accessed and not just piled in a box. I am looking for suggestions other than rod holders, gun cases, and tackle boxes- those are in use. As of right now, things are just spread out and in various bags and totes, and are pulled out when needed. There is a lot of stuff. I just want to organize it so it’s all together, and in one place. Any suggestions from people who have organized similar things. Is there a company that makes specific storage for things like this? Websites, suggestions, or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Buying a fishing kayak advice?

Thursday, May 20th, 2010
Afternoon all! I just joined and like this active blog so let me ask a question and see if there are any other Kayak fishing people here. I live in the SE and I’m looking for a good fishing kayak . Ideally a two-seater would be perfect but I would be happy with a one seater. I am not going for huge ocean fish and will fish rivers close to shore or “in-shore”. I want one that could hold a tackle box and bait and it would be nice for rod holders, although it is not super important.  I would also want a kayak that moves pretty well through the water/river current. The cheaper the better I won’t pay over $700 uless its really worth it and preferably one from bass pro. Please list its name and price. Thanks- Jonathan

Canadian Fishing Trip joke

Thursday, May 20th, 2010
A Canadian Fishing Trip joke:  Honey, I have been asked by my boss to go along on a Canadian fishing trip. We’ll be gone for a week, a good opportunity to help me get that promotion. Please pack my clothes, rod and reel, tackle box, and my new silk pajamas. I’ll pick them up later in the day.” His wife thought something sounded fishy, but did as he asked. A week later, he came home. His wife welcomed him and asked him if he caught any fish. “Sure did. Lots of walleye, several pike. But why didn’t you pack my silk pajamas?”His wife replied. “I did. They were in your tackle box.”
