What is considered a trophy largemouth bass? I’m new to bass fishing and went fishing two days ago and caught a very nice 5 .5 lb (15 inches) largemouth bass. I released the bass and I didn’t know if i should be regretting something right now. So could someone here explain what is a trophy largemouth bass? Is there a guide that goes from State-State or bass species type?
Don in Arkansas.

A MN trophy Bass would be anything over 6-7LB’s. After all, the state record is 8LB 15OZ. Well, a 5 1/2-6 LB Bass will be closer to 19-20″. If he was only 15″ the most he would have weighed would be about 2 LB’s.
Hope this helps ya? Good fishing.
here in Minnesota our lakes freeze and due to this the bass growth is stunted. Like many fisherman have had short fat fish and long skinny ones as well. I have had great success in Minnesota and caught many over five there and they aren’t long fish but they are sure a lot of fun to catch. Have you fished the submerged diamond shaped rock pile in the southwest area of lake Calhoun yet? There are plenty largemouth bedding in that area around the end of June through the middle of July. Never be disappointed about releasing a fish of any size. Be regretful only if you kill one unnecessarily.
