Summer Trout Fishing tips

Hey all thought I’d jump in and ask for some summer trout fishing tips. I live in New Mexico, I am a trout angler, but to catch trout I have to travel a long way to find cold enough water. The lake I fish, but the trout fishing has slowed down a lot because of the heat. The catfish, bass, walleye, and crappie are biting hard and though I’m mainly focused on just catching any fish now and not just trout. From summer to early fall whats the best bait and locations for any of those fish? Thanks anything helps I just want to start catching fish again preferring trout.

P.S. I am not fly fishing, but bait casting

  1. Flathead fisherman says:

Bass fishing is not too good summer-fall. I shoot for when they spawn in April-May. Unless you can get there before a storm, when they stock up on food.Iit’s gonna be a little tricky nevertheless. Catfishing is great during the middle of summer. Use stinkbait, live bait, or cutbait on the bottom for them. I like to just throw a pole rigged up for Cats out there with a bobber on it and stick it in the bank. Then, I focus on others.
Crappie is pretty good early fall. Use crappie minnows, maribou jigs, or some 2+inch curly tail grubs on jig heads and you should catch them if you find the right depth. They seem to change about 15ft – 10ft when its hot.

    Hope I helped
