The basics in fishing gear

Hello all! I am new to the site and just got into fishing last summer. A friend of mine who owns a boat has asked me many times to come fishing with him. I’ve gone out on day boats in the past but they always supplied the gear. My problem is I have not a clue on what to buy and I am on a tight budget. There is a bait shop near by that has a large variety of used fishing gear, but as mentioned I have no idea what to buy. I will be Fishing for grouper, bass, and rock fish here of the coast of central Florida. What type of rod would be best and what type of reel? And is there anything else  you would suggest?

Nitro bass boat brand?

My father is in the market to buy a used bass boat for fishing. It is truly unbelievable or nuts how expensive a new tournament style bass boat are and why it’s best to look for a used one. My father is leaning towards a Nitro bass boat, but wanted to get as many opinions as possible before he makes the next step. He is not Internet friendly so I thought to post a question here. He likes bass fishing and would like the fish/ski option. So he can still take the grand-kids out tubing/ water skiing when they are around. But, for us, the trolling motor and maneuverability is a great thing and the ability to dock in very shallow water. In short,  a good all-around boat that can work for more than one thing as the budget does not allow one for each. I don’t think it’s a bad thing. We all love to fish too.

Young woman can’t get a date!

This might sound like a very odd question to ask on here, but I am a bit frustrated! I am suppose to be enjoying my early twenties.  I try to keep myself in great shape,  educated, enjoy keeping my appearance acceptable, and dress to the best of my ability without over doing it. I can be very feminine and dress the part, but don’t mind getting dirty doing outdoor activities, etc

I don’t fish for compliments and people around me say I am attractive, with a well rounded personality. I just plainly ignore the bar scene, but no men my age ever approach me to ask me out because they go to the bars like a moth to a flame.  The only guys who show an interest in me are old enough to be my father and have the “I’ll take care of you attitude” and I just cant figure out what I’m doing wrong! At the rate, I’m going to miss out on a great period of my young life or the girlfriend of a man who is twice my age! I am seriously thinking about moving out of the South.

Anyway,what kind of gal are guys looking for anyways?

Portable GPS units for fishing

Looking for advice on a portable GPS units for fishing. My goal is to use the GPS unit to return to my fishing spots on a few of my favorite lakes/spots I fish often. I’ve read and heard that some units can automatically download maps of most larger lakes. Does anyone suggest to use this type of unit to find my fishing spots? Ideally, it would be great for if I could also use the GPS for my car or is there a  type that could be used for both applications? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

Online fly fishing rod tutorial

Morning all, I was looking for an online fly fishing rod tutorial? I had one of those compulsive buys and bought a fly rod last week and took it camping and you guessed it, I broke it. Now I have to send in a form stating the problem and completely lost on the terms they are using for the fly rod parts? Does anyone know the a website/video that has a picture of a Fly fishing rod and it shows the names of the parts etc.

Is squid good for Redfish?

Red fish bait
hello all thought I’d post a question: Is squid good bait for RedFish? I’ve been hitting the water hard this year fishing and been using gulp bait shrimp that has been putting the hurt on sea trout. I was also wondering if I should use a different shape/type of gulp bait,  possibly crab or squid to get to the big Reds?
Any ideas suggestions cast my way would sure be appreciated.

The fish smell is killing me

Hey all fishing been great this summer and I’ve been grilling a lot and want to try different methods of cooking fish. I cooked fish yesterday and when I put on my clothes on this morning it smelled like dinner.  The problem is my small apartment will hold a fish smell if I cook indoors. I cook my catch in a fryer and this leaves my apartment smelling like oil, onions, and my catch.  Besides turning on a fan, windows open, air fresheners, sprays, doors open etc. There has to be something else I can do?

Is it true that if I boil water and add cut lemons it will diminish the  smell?
