Fishing trip food ideas

Sunday, September 26th, 2010
Just fond out I get the next 3 days off and heading out with my boys to do some fishing to  our favorite lake that is nowhere near any restaurants of fast food. No place to BBQ and and don’t want to cart a grill around for hamburgers and such. I want to try something different and kid friendly for my boys. Does anyone have any suggestions? It would help me out a lot and give me some ideas on what to take when we go up there tomorrow. Thanks all for any suggestion.

Favorite types of fish to cook?

Monday, September 6th, 2010
Favorite fish to eat
I must eat fish at least 3-4 days a week, all  my favorites are smoked Salmon, flash fried flathead (yellow cat) catfish, pan fried freshwater perch, and good old fashioned grilled Yellow fin Tuna. I thought I’d join in and ask what is yours and what are/were you cooking for the holiday weekend? Today I grilled whole huge crappies (scaled-gutted) with a light peanut oil and Asian seasoning. Served with rice and grilled green onions and a mixed salad…… BEER
Delicious, have a safe and enjoyable holiday!

The fish smell is killing me

fish smell

Hey all fishing been great this summer and I’ve been grilling a lot and want to try different methods of cooking fish. I cooked fish yesterday and when I put on my clothes on this morning it smelled like dinner.  The problem is my small apartment will hold a fish smell if I cook indoors. I cook my catch in a fryer and this leaves my apartment smelling like oil, onions, and my catch.  Besides turning on a fan, windows open, air fresheners, sprays, doors open etc. There has to be something else I can do?

Is it true that if I boil water and add cut lemons it will diminish the  smell?

Cooking recipes for Rainbow Trout

cooking Rainbow Trout
Good morning all! Let me get going on my question. I am pretty good at catching and releasing Rainbow Trout, but that is about it. Any trout fishermen care to share on how to best cook them? I normally fillet all the fish I catch like bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish. But I’ve tried to fillet trout, and found that they have so many more bones in them, than these other fish, that it was next to impossible to fillet them. I just ended up with a hacked up mess. I’ve seen where people have cooked them whole, just scale and gut them. If they are cooked in this manner, can the meat just be lifted off the bones with a fork, without much danger of accidently swallowing a fish bone? Any “detailed” instructions on how to fillet and cook them correctly? that can be given to me, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Paul

My first bowfishing trip

Bow fishing sting rays
New here thought I’d post a quick story on this blog. I got a new bowfishing rig this past May and decided to get out and try my luck on some stingrays. So Sunday morning I head out and it ended up getting three rays in the cooler that were white and see through. It was awesome and I am going to cook them tonight. The hard part is I don’t know how to cook this type of fish and any suggestions on cooking would be great? I just don’t want to throw them in the freezer until I figure it out. Thanks, Jeff

Fish recipes that don’t taste fishy

Fish tacos
Hello all! I wanted to ask other members here if they can help me with my slight problem I’ll be having this Sunday. You see, I’ll be having guests over for an outdoor cookout and needed healthy recipes for fish that might appeal to all my guests? I need something that masks or minimizes that distinctive seafood flavor fish has. I was thinking along the lines of fish tacos? Not all people like fish, but who does not like tacos?

I am so tired of chicken…

Monday, June 28th, 2010
Good morning all:
Me and some friends have been hitting the shore fishing hard and doing well and landed more then a few very nice Bluefish. Most of everything we catch was released other then the lady fish which we use for chum/shark bait. So my question is what is the best way to Clean/Cook a bluefish? Anyone here ever cook BlueFish?

Thawing and cooking tilapia question

cooking tilapia

Last night  I put two pieces of tilapia in the refrigerator to thaw out and when I got up, they were still frozen. So my question is due to the fish still being partially frozen can I put it back in the freezer since it didn’t completely thaw out? Is the fish OK to thaw and cook at a later date? thanks.

fish diet
Hey all thought I would get a bit off fishing because there is so much “how to” do this and not so much information or blog posting about getting shape for summer. So whats a good diet for the summer? Well, obvousily fish and stuff but has worked for you in the past? I am not much into exercise because I am already so active.
