I got a week off and heading down to the Florida Keys (been there many times) and I usually go snorkeling or scuba diving, go to beach and catch a sunset show, hit local restaurants, chill out by the pool at the place we stay, fish, go to Theatre of the Sea, all that fun tourist stuff. This trip I want to get off the beaten tourist path and very interested on what the locals do?
Thanks in advance,
Robert

Hey All, looking for some Florida fishing and travel advice. My kids and I will be flying into Tampa in mid-September where we will stay in a hotel in South of the City to first visit or newly retired relatives. One of our main goals is to visit the Everglades and of course, go to Key West and hopefully do some great fishing. Any suggestions on what to do or what you would highly recommend/other fun things to do? We would like to avoid huge tourist destinations and don’t want to stay in large cities like Miami or Orlando. All we want to do is relax and have some fun and our trip will be 14 days.
Thanks for any information,
Jerry, in NJ

Hello all! I am new to the site and just got into fishing last summer. A friend of mine who owns a boat has asked me many times to come fishing with him. I’ve gone out on day boats in the past but they always supplied the gear. My problem is I have not a clue on what to buy and I am on a tight budget. There is a bait shop near by that has a large variety of used fishing gear, but as mentioned I have no idea what to buy. I will be Fishing for grouper, bass, and rock fish here of the coast of central Florida. What type of rod would be best and what type of reel? And is there anything else you would suggest?

This evening, Saturday I was out fishing (Florida on the Gulf) for snook and caught a nice little one and released the fish. Anyway, I was fishing under a bridge at night and it was full of Snook under the lights. Just about anything I cast in-front of them ie.,, DOA rubber shrimp, a plastic wiggle fish, frozen shrimp, they just would not hit anything. I’m getting tired of fishing all together. I can’t catch anything decent here. I don’t have a boat either and only go out when invited. Looking for tips and advice.
Any out there?- Lisa in Fl

Hello all at cupidfish. Hope you all had a safe and happy 4,th of July. Alright I had quick question, planning on going fishing all this week. Looking at the weather-tides, I think I’ll give the flats a try. I normally use live shrimp with no weight letting the wind and current take me from one end to the other and it seems to be hit or miss for me. Is this normal for flats fishing? Any tips will help. Live bait, dead, or lures. thanks

Hey all! I read and heard that bowfishing in Florida is great especially for carp and small gar. So I am looking for places to try in SC Florida. I am not interested in taking large trophy fish or saltwater fish or any thing like alligators ETC. I am interested in places to bowfish (preferably freshwater) and different kinds of fish that I can catch that are edible even if it’s trash fish. Suggestions?

A long time bass angler going to Florida and want to do some shore fishing and want to pick up a good saltwater fishing rod/reel combo under $50.00 with 15-25lbs line test? I’ll be fishing off piers/shore outside of Tampa Florida. Its my first time saltwater fishing, so if you have any bait and gear advice it sure would help.

Any Florida Anglers? Good camping fishing in Florida? I would like to take my kids on a camp-out in Florida with some some raw wilderness type camping. Is it possible to find a place where I can go to a pond a pull out a fish and cook it at my own fire I set up….where can I go?
Thanks-Steve

My first fly rod? I am an avid bass fishing angler that wants to expand into fly fishing. I’ve already taken an afternoon course in casting in the parking lot of Bass Pro Shop. I am hooked and found it to be more then fun. So here is the question or problem. I don’t want to be sold a ton of things I don’t really need, and I want quality without going broke. So what would recommend (basics) for a new fly fishing angler with a budget of $300 to $500? Looking for a one size fits all category if possible. I would be fishing in the shallows of Florida’s Mosquito Lagoon and the Keys.
