Hello all need a little advice on the differences between closed reels and open reels. I have used a closed-reel for some time now, and they seem more prone to get knotted and twisted inside. Yet I know that open-reel rod are used a bit differently and can be more complicated. Pros/cons…advantages/disadvantages.Thanks!
I mean, other than the obvious of course…

During the Spring and early summer I get out on the water as much as I can, but another form of fishing I enjoy is garage sale fishing. I do this on the weekends and I find great tackle and gear (lot’s of junk too) for almost nothing. Just yesterday, I found two nice fishing rods for a dollar apiece, 7 fishing reels for under 10 dollars, and a bunch of lures, and supplies for a dollar. My wife said I didn’t need any more fishing stuff, but some of it is better than some of my gear now (which I plan on replacing), and you can never have too many lures! I already fixed the 2 poles with the 2 best reels, and have another nice trout pole, and another nice catfish pole. Does anyone else do this on this forum? Post on what you found?
Regards,
Jerry

Hey all ! I need some walleye fishing tips needed in locating the types of bait needed and the gear I need to catch Walleye. I’ve been told by many anglers in my area to use a jig head and a minnow but I want to use fake bait so I don’t have to worry about keeping the bait alive and obtaining the bait before I go out there. So if I hit BassProshops what gear should I get?The lakes I fish/eat around is a murky water and right now I’m fishing at a spot that is probably 4 – 6 ‘ deep. I’ve been trying the crank bait but the past two times out there I have been skunked.
Thanks- Jerry
I need a boat because I’m stuck fishing from shore right now.

Good after noon CupidFish I am Jeff in Alabama! Thought I’d join and pitch a question to get myself going here. My question is for the fly fisherman on this blog. As mentioned I live in (south eastern corner) Alabama and looking to get into Fly Fishing this
summer.
I got into fly fishing about a decade ago, but I wasn’t able to free up time to do it and sold my gear. So i’m looking to start up again but i just moved to Alabama. So anyway, i am wondering about some places to try fly fishing in the south eastern corner of alabama.
Thanks all for any advice you can throw my way.

It’s looking like it’s going to be a go because my work gave me some time off after 2 years of working straight. Anyway, me a some of my friends want to go on a Canadian fly fishing trip this summer. Can anyone recommend a good place. Which is better fly in or drive in? Thought I’d ask here and see that there are some nice helpful anglers. Also, if you have any information/guides etc. What gear would you recommend and we want to go fly fishing so any fly advice would be helpful. Thanks- Jeff

Hey all, another new member here and thought i’d also ask a question. I live on the south shore of Long Island and always go to the beach and I like to fish as-well, just have never gone shore/beach fishing. I already have an ideas for a rod 10/12 foot. Here’s the thing, I have heard mixed reviews on which are better for surf/casting. Either conventional reel or spinning reel. If I were to go with the spinning I would probably get the Black and gold Daiwa. I don’t really know my conventional. I am no newbie to fishing in general but to Surf/shore fishing I am and will be fishing for: Stripers, bluefish, weak fish, fluke, flounder, sea robins =\ a bunch more too. This will be my first shore/surf rod reel? Thanks-Anthony

Thought I would start a post about the useless junk I/you bought for fishing. You know, the fishing equipment/tackle you’ve acquired over the years but never use or any other tackle just collecting dust in your tackle collection? This may be some advice/use for the members here on what tackle NOT to buy or for gifts ETC.
My List:
13 ugly sticks: Got tired of breaking them so I gave them away.
NO MORE BOBBERS, PLEASE! i have enough to tie them together and make a decent fishing raft.
ANYTHING Roland Martin has endorsed: Some of fishing finest gimmicks and to be the color-c-lector, helicopter lure, but the Rocket Rod takes the cake!
What are some of yours ?

Hey all I thought I would post this and see what the rest of you folks are doing to get ideas from. I do not have a lot of outdoor storage space, and I do not have a garage, but I do have a spare room in the house due to kicking out my useless 26 step-son. So I am looking for some ideas for organizing my fishing/hunting gear/tackle so that it is easily accessed and not just piled in a box. I am looking for suggestions other than rod holders, gun cases, and tackle boxes- those are in use. As of right now, things are just spread out and in various bags and totes, and are pulled out when needed. There is a lot of stuff. I just want to organize it so it’s all together, and in one place. Any suggestions from people who have organized similar things. Is there a company that makes specific storage for things like this? Websites, suggestions, or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Don

Afternoon all! I just joined and like this active blog so let me ask a question and see if there are any other Kayak fishing people here. I live in the SE and I’m looking for a good fishing kayak . Ideally a two-seater would be perfect but I would be happy with a one seater. I am not going for huge ocean fish and will fish rivers close to shore or “in-shore”. I want one that could hold a tackle box and bait and it would be nice for rod holders, although it is not super important. I would also want a kayak that moves pretty well through the water/river current. The cheaper the better I won’t pay over $700 uless its really worth it and preferably one from bass pro. Please list its name and price. Thanks- Jonathan
