Dry flies Trout fishing

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

Hey all I am a NEW avid  Fly fisherman that is now addicted. Anyway,  I and have fished lakes for Bluegill and Bass and some  rivers for Trout. Okay so what I do know is  The Department of Conservation has released Rainbow Trout in 6 lakes close to my house and three of the lakes are for Fly Fishing only. Very COOL! So how to you go about fishing lakes for Trout? Can I use dry flies like I do in rivers? How do you fish a dry fly in still water? Should I go with a streamer or not use a dry fly? Float a nymph or glow ball under a strike indicator?– …or what do you suggest? Ozzy in PA

Trout fishing rod/reel question?

Saturday, April 17th, 2010
Hey all, I just got a St. Croix triumph 6′ medium action rod paired with a Shimano Sedona 1000 fd reel. I will be using this setup mainly for trout, but will probably be using it for some small smallmouths. Do you think this will be to big for trout? Should I switch to an ultra-light or light action?- Dave

Different techniques fishing rainbow trout

Friday, April 9th, 2010
Hey all,  had a quick question: will this bass techniques work for rainbow trout? Meaning, is there any possible way that I could use bass techniques and bass tackle for rainbow trout? Would a drop shot rig with a zoom magnum shakey-head worm work for rainbow trout in shallow rivers? Or what about small jigs, texas rigged lizards, or shakey-head worms with stand up jig heads?
Thanks-Dane.

New guide how much to charge?

Saturday, March 27th, 2010
New guide how much to charge? I recently bought a fishing boat and got my guide license. I have a 16 foot aluminum boat with a 28 HP outboard. It’s nothing fancy but it’s comfortable for me and three sports and well equipped with downriggers and a fish finder. Mostly I will be trolling for landlocked salmon and trout on freshwater lakes. What’s a fair rate for a guide to charge for 4 hours of trolling? Suggestions?

Rooster Tails for Trout fishing?

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Could someone throw me some trout advice on the best colors of Rooster Tail spinners? Also, if you are going to make a treble hook into a single hook, which two do you cut off (look carefully at a treble hook, and you’ll know what I mean), and at what point do you cut them? Some of the sanctuary waters in my area, fishing is permitted, but only catch/release with single, barbless hooks.

Thanks much,
Charlie

Winter Missouri Trout fishing

Sunday, February 28th, 2010
Hello, does anyone on this blog go trout fishing in Missouri? If so,  I have a bad case of cabin fever and I just wanna go out there and catch some fish. I don’t have too much experience with trout because not many are around locally, so I was thinking somewhere like Bennett Springs State Park? I know it’s awesome when it’s warm, but is it any different in the Winter early Spring. If anyone can point me in the right direction I’d be grateful.

Fishing trout stream question

Friday, February 26th, 2010
Okay, now I’ve scouted long and hard and found out where the trout are, but the question is, what is the best bait for that? Also, this stream holds only small trout so wouldn’t the fly line spinner bait be a bit too big for them?

After moving up tp Nova Scotia, Canada and was wondering if there is a fall trout season. Im getting conflicting opinions from the people I’ve talked to. Do you guys fish trout in the fall… when do you start landing them again? Yes, a little late, but always wanted to know.

Celica French spinner lures?

Saturday, January 16th, 2010
I’ve  been looking all over for web for the  French spinning lures that I used for trout fishing when stationed in Germany. I believe the brand name was ‘Celica’ and they are hand made and simply a great lure to have. I use to have a fishing buddy to buy them for me in France, but he moved we can’t seem to find the lures anywhere in the south or on the net. Any help is appreciated.
