Morning all thought I’d pop in and ask about a g ood medium action fly rod? Something suitable for saltwater fishing for snook, tarpon, and striped bass? I am use to fly fishing for trout so my gear is fairly lite…

Hey all looking to get some feedback from other bass anglers here. I been given access to a new pond and need a bit of advice because the pond/lake is 64 acres, 30ft deep, sandy and mud bottom with hydrilla. The Pond is full of largemouth bass with zero structures on the pond or any stumps/rocks for the bass to hide. I’ve done pretty well with open water cranks and landed many 2lbers but with 30 ft depths I can’t find any large bass. This is a very healthy un-fished stocked pond.. any advice?

Time to chip in and ask a question? Should I just focus on fishing one type of fish? Because my fishing techniques and equipment is so scattered. I mean, after you spend the money on fishing equipment for catfish, carp, panfish, and bass my wallet is hurting. I like to fish for them all and depending on the season your choices will get narrow, but I think it’s time to take it down to one species and target it more frequently? I have to do something. I guess and can still go about with fishing for those but bass, catfish, carp, and panfish all need separate gear. Now if I just focus on bass fishing alone I would still just have a little over a dozen or so reels/rods. I could sale some of my other fishing supplies/equipment and could earn profit.
Just wanted to see what you anglers out their think I should do? David

Any bass anglers care to share some fishing advice? I’ve noticed there is a lot of anglers here from the South around Missouri and Arkansas. I’ll be going down to the Elk River area to visit family and been bass fishing on lakes many times, but I’m going fishing on a small clear river that I have not fished before, its not a large river. I’ll be going after smallmouth bass mainly, but largemouth bass also. The water temperature will be 60-65 degrees and the air temperature will be in the high 90’s and as far as rain it has been raining all week and there is a slight chance it will rain this weekend so the water level will be up. I’ll be heading out to buy some bass lures tomorrow and could use so advice on what to get. I am looking for advice on lures you think will work for me during this weekend.
Thanks, Brandon

Thought I’d check in and update a few on my second date idea. So as you know I met a guy here on CupidFish and he took me out for a nice lunch and then a great walk. He works a lot and likes bass fishing as much as I do and so now it’s my choice for the second date. So my plan is to go fishing and make a fire and fish and watch the stars but its so damn hot! Anyway, he does work a lot and mentioned a few times he has not got out all that much to do some fishing and his free time he is spending with me;-) Anyway, my question is do you think it is too soon for a camp/fishing trip?
Thanks Eileen

Hey all I am from Texas and thought I’d join and check things out here at cupidfish and ask a question now that my home lake will become overgrown in many areas with thick lily pads and hydrilla and is some what of a problem for me every year. The lake I am fishing is a power plant lake, and summer is my hardest time to fish it because my fish finder can’t see deep structure. Because the lily pads seem my best bet. Could some one please help me figure out a good method to fish these seemingly impenetrable lily pads, but I know there are fish in them. What would you recommend, and do you have any other tips for this lake during summer? It only has two docks, and it is characterized by tons of stumps and its a fairly small 2,500 acre lake if that helps. -Regards, Rich in TX

I will be fishing up in Maine for a few weeks during the summer and I will be spending a lot of time fishing. So my question, what is better for freshwater bass, a rubber worm with a jig head or a deep diving lure? The lake can get to about 50 feet in the center but I will fish around the 15-20 foot region the most and I will be fishing in the mornings and afternoons mostly. Hopefully, It will be sunny! Thanks for any help or advice,- Frankie Z

Good day CupidFish! I am Henrik from South Africa. When fishing RSA we use dips, basically organic and oil based or a mix of sauces that we add either a live or fish based bait, or a “milie bomb”. A millie bomb is a spring like contraption that is made out of wire, with a weight in it. African anglers make a dough made from pieces of corn, flour, and the water in which the fish inhabitants. So there is different flavors like banana, ETC. What happens is the fish are attracted to the smell of it. Plus we also use whole frogs as bait and a doves torso. please don’t think we are crazy Africans, anyway. Do you guys in the us have any methods for catching sweet water fish that I could use over here? If you really want to research what fish we have im gonna give you a small list of our fresh water fish.
tiger fish
bass
carp
yellow
barbell, (cat fish)
I know it is an odd question, but it would be interesting to me to try different or American fishing techniques. That’s all

Lake Martin Alabama striper fishing any good? If so, what method would you recommend artificial bait for them or live bait for them? If you have fished there do you have GPS Coordinates to good stripe fishing locations? Also if you have GPS Coordinates for good Large Mouth bass fishing spots on Lake Martin id love those to. and what did you use to catch them? I know I asking a bit too much, but I have other area lakes I’d be willing to share my honey-hole spots for trade!
Tight lines,
Mac

I took an early jump on Spring fishing, but recently I have had zero luck. I’ve been fishing when its about 50-60 degrees and hit both the pier and shore. I’ve been using a medium heavy spinning rod and a variety of baits and lures that include: Zoom plastic worms, Tiki wave worms, crank baits of all kinds. I’m doing all this and I still haven’t even got a BITE this Spring. Possibly still to early or what can I do to make my fishing more efficient? If someone here at CupidFish could throw me some tips or even a knowledgeable about angling (more then me) would sure help.
Thanks! KC
