Any Sacramento river anglers here? I am looking for the best place to fish the river? Ideally I am looking for the best place to fish for striped bass. Possibly, (crosses fingers) a sturgeon, then of course all the different kinds of catfish. I usually hit Locke, Isleton, Rio Vista and Georgiana Slough…
Thanks for any tips
Edward

I’ve gone out fishing a few times this summer with guides and used their equipment. However, I recently went to a local bait shop and purchased a slightly used rod and reel, many different variety of hooks, round container of split shot weights, and some bobbers.
I headed out last night and hit the (55 acre) lake a 7:30-11:00 or at night. I caught a lot of bluegill, sunfish, and yellow perch. There are the occasional catfish when I drag along the bottom, and some small and large mouth bass.
I’ve been fishing with live bait ie., crickets and worms but I am now starting a tackle box with some artificial lures. Could any of you anglers shoot me some ideas on what types of baits and lures to fill my tackle box with? If you could give me some links to places online where I can buy them it would be great too.

Hey all thought I’d check in and ask a good method for shore fishing catfish and possibly a dock? I normally fish for catfish off a boat and now I’ll be heading out doing some camping and needed to know what gear/method/rig would best work fishing from the shore.
Thanks all, Jackie

Time to chip in and ask a question? Should I just focus on fishing one type of fish? Because my fishing techniques and equipment is so scattered. I mean, after you spend the money on fishing equipment for catfish, carp, panfish, and bass my wallet is hurting. I like to fish for them all and depending on the season your choices will get narrow, but I think it’s time to take it down to one species and target it more frequently? I have to do something. I guess and can still go about with fishing for those but bass, catfish, carp, and panfish all need separate gear. Now if I just focus on bass fishing alone I would still just have a little over a dozen or so reels/rods. I could sale some of my other fishing supplies/equipment and could earn profit.
Just wanted to see what you anglers out their think I should do? David

Good morning all! Let me get going on my question. I am pretty good at catching and releasing Rainbow Trout, but that is about it. Any trout fishermen care to share on how to best cook them? I normally fillet all the fish I catch like bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish. But I’ve tried to fillet trout, and found that they have so many more bones in them, than these other fish, that it was next to impossible to fillet them. I just ended up with a hacked up mess. I’ve seen where people have cooked them whole, just scale and gut them. If they are cooked in this manner, can the meat just be lifted off the bones with a fork, without much danger of accidently swallowing a fish bone? Any “detailed” instructions on how to fillet and cook them correctly? that can be given to me, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Paul

The actual age of a Catfish is determined by what? I’ve have caught a lot of big catfish over the years and did not know the actual age of the catfish I’ve caught. I understand it must vary from State to State because of different species and weather conditions. BUT the actual age of a matured catfish caught from the river? Based on scientific research of fishery experts, how do they tell the actual age of a fish? I know it’s an odd question, but I’ve always just wanted to know. Thanks if you have any ideas. I need some advice on catfish spike injury care. I was out catfishing on the river and was barefoot and I stepped on a catfish and the spike stuck in my foot. Not only did I step on the spike it is stuck in my foot when I yank the fish out. I was wondering how long does it take to heal and how to go about treating it? I can’t even move my foot and had to call in sick today…;-(

Universal freshwater fishing line? I will be fishing in freshwater rivers, many small ponds, and lakes very clear, to muddy/mossy, from 1- 50 feet deep. I will be targeting a variety of fish from- pan fish, bass, carp, catfish, and probably Gar. I will be using everything from live crickets to large crank baits. I will at different times be using spinning, casting, and spin casting reels. I will be fishing on bottom, using bobbers, trolling, and casting at different times. I just want one line to do all these jobs and I don’t care if it is the ultimate choice for every application. I know how to choose the thickness/test.
Thanks

Hey all, another with a quick question about fishing line for bass, catfish, Pike, and I mean strength. I am the avid angler all things bass fishing and occasionally catch some channel catfish. I plan on heading up north this July for some pike fishing. I am getting excites because I’ve heard the lakes (I’m going to) can get pike up to 25 lbs, but the average is about 5 -10 lbs. I need to get my rod re-lined anyways so what would be a good lb test to put on that won’t be to heavy for small fish and not to light for the possible big guys . ( I have 12 lb on now and think i might need more ). Thanks
