Cooking recipes for Rainbow Trout
Tuesday, August 10th, 2010
Good morning all! Let me get going on my question. I am pretty good at catching and releasing Rainbow Trout, but that is about it. Any trout fishermen care to share on how to best cook them? I normally fillet all the fish I catch like bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish. But I’ve tried to fillet trout, and found that they have so many more bones in them, than these other fish, that it was next to impossible to fillet them. I just ended up with a hacked up mess. I’ve seen where people have cooked them whole, just scale and gut them. If they are cooked in this manner, can the meat just be lifted off the bones with a fork, without much danger of accidently swallowing a fish bone? Any “detailed” instructions on how to fillet and cook them correctly? that can be given to me, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Paul
The types of crappie in Texas
Monday, May 31st, 2010What are the different types of crappie in Texas. I am new to the State and live on Sam Rayburn Lake and yesterday I was fishing in freshwater and caught a fish that was about 1.2 pounds, 8 inches and looked like a crappie or huge bluegill but was blue and it had a red tail. if anyone can help me figure out what it was I’d greatly appreciate it.
Large pond Bass fishing advice
Wednesday, May 19th, 2010Hey all new to the site and had a question for you pond/small lake owners or regular fishers. I live on a 2 – 3 acre lake that is shaped like a “P” in North Texas. Let me describe the pond. It is shallow and a little more then 3 feet around the edges and 6-15 in the deepest part of the lake. The water clarity is low with plenty of algae, so about 2 feet visibility at best. The bottom is dark, blackish leaves that coat all of the bottom. There is zero vegitation that I know of in the water. But there are loads of sunfish, some crappie, an shad, and lots of 5-10lbs catfish. I know there are largemouth bass in the water because I caught one on a small rubber shad. I have also been told be several neighbors that they have seen or caught some bigger 3-5lb bass in the past.
Now with this information, as the water warms, what lure should I be using? I have tried several different color jigs (red, blue/black, white, silver) without success. I have tried shallow running crank baits and some rattle trap lures without success. Any advice would sure be appreciated.- Thanks Mike
