Tying fishing line on my reel

Saturday, September 11th, 2010

I hate wasting fishing line, but I did not put enough fishing line on my reel, so now when I fishing from shore my line can’t go deep enough. Is it  a good idea to tie two lines together or a knot you would suggest to be good enough to hold at best, a 10lb fish? I am just too lazy to re-string the reel and it is a backup rod/ reel to boot! In short, would a good knot work?

Thanks,

Don

Toledo Bend TX Lake fishing?

Saturday, September 4th, 2010
Hey all hope you all are having a nice holiday weekend. I’m stuck at work here in Tyler Tx and have this coming week off. I just got a call from my uncle who wants me to come down and check out his new cabin he bought on Toledo bend lake  (Texas side) a few months ago. I am planning on heading down there on Tuesday to get some fishing done. My Uncle is is new to the area (not much a fisherman) and says he doesn’t know what to fish for this time of year. Advice suggestion?

Arkansas lake property laws

Monday, July 26th, 2010
arkansas lake propertyArkansas lake property laws:
Hey all had a question for some of the Southern anglers on this site and thought this would be a good place to ask. I run a descend online business and can live anywhere and want to move from California because it’s just too expensive to live here. I am an avid angler and more of a bass fisherman or freshwater angler then ocean fishing. Anyway, I’ve been looking online and the standard of living in the south and home prices are just unbelievably good compared to southern California. BUT I can’t decide whether to settle down in Arkansas or Alabama, both have great fishing lakes and a very affordable lifestyle. I want to build a custom house on a lake. A friend said that in Alabama, any property you own on a lake is private property. In short, people can’t fish on your property or trespass, but the law is different in places like Mississippi. In MS, people can supposedly fish from your backyard into the lake, that kind of thing. A law regarding “right of way” or something like that. Does anyone know the law in Arkansas in regard to this?
Thanks Alex in Socal!

Fishing on a first date?

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

I met someone nice and being an avid angler. He also loves to fish and I do and do you think it would be odd to ask him to go fishing on a first date? The weather is perfect for fishing and I think it would be a great first date. What do you all think?

Pricing on a steelhead mount?

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

stealhead mountI was thinking about getting my first steelhead mount but just don’t know any reliable companies or how to go about getting one mounted? I believe the pricing is done by the inch?… does it matter by species? Any information would be great and as mentioned, this will be my first mounted or stuffed fish.

Thanks Gary in IN.

The actual age of a Catfish

Big catfish

The actual age of a Catfish is determined by what? I’ve have caught a lot of big catfish over the years and did not know the actual age of the catfish I’ve caught. I understand it must vary from State to State because of different species and weather conditions. BUT the actual age of a matured catfish caught from the river? Based on scientific research of fishery experts, how do they tell the actual age of a fish? I know it’s an odd question, but I’ve always just wanted to know. Thanks if you have any ideas.  Jeff in GA.

Three lures that never fail

Friday, July 2nd, 2010
It’s Friday and I have a few more hours to kill then I am off fishing on the river. So let’s play “three lures that never fail”…My choices:
1. Yellow or white mini-king spinner-bait
2. Three inch rapala
3. Four inch plastic Renegade worms

One of those lures mention has worked so well,  the success rate is 95% of times I was on the water. I fish some of the best spots I can and not the ones where there are 30 idiots on a boat fishing the smallest lake in the state.

Howto catch grass carp?

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010
grass carp
Hey carp anglers! I’ve been seeing huge  grass carp in the lake where I fish, with some looking almost four feet long or more and it has me excited. I’ve heard they do not taste very good, but they do look like they will put up a good fight. By the way, these are not your regular brown carp and think these grass carp were actually stocked in this lake.

They are NOT going for the dough bait or even regular bait used for carp. They wont even eat a nightcrawler. Suggestions advice? …Thanks Scott

Best US catfishing locations?

catfishing
My father loves to go cat fishing and I want to surprise him with a cat fishing trip, but I don’t know where to go. In truth, he is driving me crazy already this summer now that I am off (I’m a teacher) for the summer. Could some of the cupidfish members please point me in a general direction for some good fishing spots in the US ?…or err…in the Southern US.
Regards,
Beth
