A good ladies rod reel setup? I am in the market to purchase a fishing rod & reel new or used, I need some help. I am starting out and want to get my own fishing equipment because this summer I used friends and family and I got to like fishing a lot. I have no idea where to start or what to buy! I am smaller then average woman, only 5 feet tall. I shore fish ocean, rivers, and lakes. My budget is around a $100 for both rod and reel being new and all to fishing I want to practice and learn on used or cheaper fishing gear before I go out and spend a lot of money of good quality gear. This does not mean I want to buy cheap fishing gear that does not last. As mentioned, I am a beginner when it comes to fishing but I do have some experience. I will be fishing for catfish, redfish, black drum, trout, ect. I am fishing in the Houston area. I would like a rod/reel big enough to handle a 20-30 lbs line. Is the Ugly stick my best bet?

Hello, I have a quick question about fishing? I have been somewhat of a casual angler for a little better part of a decade. For years, I used what was cheap at Wal-Mart and hit the pond for an hour or so. This year it all changed, I started using crankbaits, and hitting the water daily, and this spring, summer, fishing season I turned into a serious fisherman. What is holding me back is my serious knowledge of fishing gear, knots, and baits, I got a good handle and know where the right locations are and this summer I caught a lot of fish. So now I want to buy a very nice rod/reel setup. Any anglers here at Cupidfish give me some suggestions on nice reel and decent rod? I am a freshwater fisherman and fish rivers on a boat, lakes, and ponds. Aany suggestions would be great, thank you- Dean in WV

Best method for cleaning your fishing gear ie, rods and reels? Thought i’d check in and ask for the best methods and material that you all would use to clean your fishing rods, reels, and gear? I’m am probably like many anglers that usually use wd40 and it seems to work well but there must be a better solution for cleaning them?
Suggestions/advice?

I’ve gone out fishing a few times this summer with guides and used their equipment. However, I recently went to a local bait shop and purchased a slightly used rod and reel, many different variety of hooks, round container of split shot weights, and some bobbers.
I headed out last night and hit the (55 acre) lake a 7:30-11:00 or at night. I caught a lot of bluegill, sunfish, and yellow perch. There are the occasional catfish when I drag along the bottom, and some small and large mouth bass.
I’ve been fishing with live bait ie., crickets and worms but I am now starting a tackle box with some artificial lures. Could any of you anglers shoot me some ideas on what types of baits and lures to fill my tackle box with? If you could give me some links to places online where I can buy them it would be great too.

Hello all! I am new to the site and just got into fishing last summer. A friend of mine who owns a boat has asked me many times to come fishing with him. I’ve gone out on day boats in the past but they always supplied the gear. My problem is I have not a clue on what to buy and I am on a tight budget. There is a bait shop near by that has a large variety of used fishing gear, but as mentioned I have no idea what to buy. I will be Fishing for grouper, bass, and rock fish here of the coast of central Florida. What type of rod would be best and what type of reel? And is there anything else you would suggest?

Hello all! I thought I’d post a question regarding simple fishing gear. I am just your average fisherman and for bait, I use your run of the mill powerbaits, salmon eggs, and worms, you can buy at any local bait shop. I have been hooking up a lot of trout and largemouth bass with store bought minnows and now only want to use live bait when fishing. After searching the net I see many “minnow traps” that are just some sort of plastic bottle contraption. I posted the picture above and I was wondering if anyone here uses this trap or would suggest one or a direction to go?

Do you have a lot of fishing lures that have never seen water? I was cleaning my gear and just could not believe how many lures I have that are new and never been out of the house or on the water. After counting them all it was 53 and here I am getting on my kids for wasting money on video games that just sit in a box and not used. So how many lures/gear do you have that has never been used?

Happy 4th of July people! It looks like we are going up to Anchorage in late July for what I’d say is an Alaskan fishing road trip and will be travelling around by car/truck to hit some nice fishing spots. I know there are some regulations in certain areas on where you can use fly fishing gear only, or a regular fishing rod. Do any of you members or anglers know where I can get this information in advance? Just trying to plan what to bring and map our routes… I’ve looked for any sort of map or link, but can’t seem to find anything other than a reference from the Department of Fish…

Hey all I thought I would post this and see what the rest of you folks are doing to get ideas from. I do not have a lot of outdoor storage space, and I do not have a garage, but I do have a spare room in the house due to kicking out my useless 26 step-son. So I am looking for some ideas for organizing my fishing/hunting gear/tackle so that it is easily accessed and not just piled in a box. I am looking for suggestions other than rod holders, gun cases, and tackle boxes- those are in use. As of right now, things are just spread out and in various bags and totes, and are pulled out when needed. There is a lot of stuff. I just want to organize it so it’s all together, and in one place. Any suggestions from people who have organized similar things. Is there a company that makes specific storage for things like this? Websites, suggestions, or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
