Newbies first fly fishing rod?

fly fishing
Hello all thought I’dpost about being  an absolute newbie at fly fishing. I am still struggling a bit with casting and landing a trout but I am hooked on fly fishing. Now it’s time to buy my own equipment although I have only been on two fly fishing trips with others and now I think I am ready to venture out alone. I am looking to buy a nice, mid-priced, decent rod. Do any fly anglers on this site want to point me in the right direction or a good suggestion? I have been told by many, that fly fishing kits are more problems then good?
thanks for any help!!!!!

My first fly rod fishing advice

fly rod
Good morning all! I am also new here and thought I’d ask some of the resident fly anglers about my first fly rod I just purchased. It’s single action, not to fancy. So my questions for the fly anglers here. How much line would you recommend to go on the reel? Backing fly line and, leader. Also, what is the loop at, the end of the leader for? and, what is tippet? I will be mostly concentrating on reservoirs for Hybrid Striper and, Crappie. any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Terry

Montana fly fishing trip?

Montana fly fishing

This blog looks like a place for valuable fly fishing information. A friend and I want to cutout of town and head West on a 2 week fly fishing adventure road trip. We were thinking on giving Montana a go, but I’m just not real sure where to go there. I don’t really want a guide service, but we’re collage students in our 20’s and can’t afford to hire anyone.  Any suggestions would be appreciated plus the flies you would recommend for that area. We will be coming from North Carolina.
Thanks,
Pete

Alaskan Fishing road trip

Alaska Fishing road trip

Happy 4th of July people! It looks like we are  going up to Anchorage in late July for what I’d say is an  Alaskan fishing road trip and will be travelling around by car/truck to hit some nice fishing spots. I know there are some regulations in certain areas on where you can use fly fishing gear only, or a regular fishing rod. Do any of you members or anglers know where I can get this information in advance? Just trying to plan what to bring and map our routes… I’ve looked for any sort of map or link, but can’t seem to find anything other than a reference from the Department of Fish…

Thanks in advance!

Jeff

Largemouth Bass fly fishing bait

Saturday, July 3rd, 2010
fly fishing large bassHey all, I have to work on the 4th but I have the rest of the week off and going camping and I am going to do some fly fish fishing and for (first time)  largemouth bass. What is the best bait/fly to catch them with? I don’t think it could be much harder then lets say then channel catfish? I haven’t fished for a couple of years, but the last time I did was in the fly fishing and I caught a nice trout. If I could handle that I am thinking why not go fly fishing for largmouth bass?
Thanks!

Fly fishing Q & A

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010
Alright here goes. I got my first fly rod for fathers day, a field and stream 6 wt 9 ft with WF line. So here is my newbie fly fishing question. I will  be fishing poppers and streamers and woolly buggers so how do I attach my fly line to a leader, could I just use like 8lb stren mono or do i have to use a leader designed for fly fishing like for example “frog hair”. Thanks in advance and tips are appreciated. Gary

My first fly rod?

first fly rod

My first fly rod? I am an avid bass fishing angler that wants to expand into fly fishing. I’ve already taken an afternoon course in casting in the parking lot of Bass Pro Shop. I am hooked and found it to be more then fun. So here is the question or problem. I don’t want to be sold a ton of things I don’t really need, and I want quality without going broke. So what would recommend (basics) for a new fly fishing angler with a budget of $300 to $500? Looking for a one size fits all category if possible. I would be fishing in the shallows of Florida’s Mosquito Lagoon and the Keys.

Fly fishing Alabama any good?

Fly-Fishing
Good after noon CupidFish I am Jeff in Alabama! Thought I’d join and pitch a question to get myself going here. My question is for the fly fisherman on this blog. As mentioned I live in (south eastern corner) Alabama and  looking to get into Fly Fishing this summer.
I got into fly fishing about a decade ago, but I wasn’t able to free up time to do it and sold my gear. So i’m looking to start up again but i just moved to Alabama. So anyway, i am wondering about some places to try fly fishing in the south eastern corner of alabama.
Thanks all for any advice you can throw my way.

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010
It’s looking like it’s going to be a go because my work gave me some time off after 2 years of working straight. Anyway, me a some of my friends want to go on a Canadian fly fishing trip this summer. Can anyone recommend a good place. Which is better fly in or drive in? Thought I’d ask here and see that there are some nice helpful anglers. Also, if you have any information/guides etc. What gear would you recommend and we want to go fly fishing so any fly advice would be helpful. Thanks- Jeff
