Soon I am heading out and going for the Red Drum and Spanish Mackerel and I would like some suggestions on artificial lures that would work well for the Red Drum. I was thinking, is that I am just going to throw out one line close to bottom that has two hooks and a weight, one hook being 6 inches up, and the other another 3-4 Inches, and then have them baited with one hook being a live or cut shrimp, and the other hook either a crab or small croaker. But for the artificial bait, I was thinking that I would just throw out and set up the bottom pole, and then pretty much just use this pole with the artificial bait to cast out and try to get lucky and pass the time. Also, if you have any tips for any of the three fish Im mainly going for (Red Drum, Mackerel, and Flounder) please feel free to include them and any bait suggestions

.Also, Red Drum, I can probably fish piers and jetties for a few days. I am going to be stuck at the beach for a few other days, and was wondering if you would suggest fishing from the surf or the pier fishing for the Drum? Or which would provide more success? Also, for the Cut bait pole, about how far do I need to throw it out into the surf fish?
Thanks, and sorry if this is scattered, but Ive got to head off
Jake

Hey all here is my question. Is renting fishing gear in San Diego advisable or even possible? I’ll be heading to San Diego for about and I want to try out pier fishing. It will be the first time that I have seen the pacific ocean and definitely want to fish it.;-) I do not have any saltwater gear due to living hundreds of miles from the ocean in the South. I only have small rods/reels that are for freshwater. So my question is can any one tell me if it is passable to rent Gear in San Diego? I’ll be staying near Ocean Beach so most likely if passable I will fish there.
Also, if not, I think I will buy a cheap set up at Walmart most likely, I will be spending most of my time at the beach and a day at the zoo but will spend my down time pier fishing. I was under the impression that pier fishing does not require a license but I may be wrong.
Any help is much appreciated…….. Thanks-Scott

Hello, any Florida fisherman here? I’ve been Saltwater fishing in the sound at the Florida panhandle and needed some advice on what fish are running this time of year. I have been fishing out there for a couple nights now on a pier and all I have been catching is catfish and that’s been about it.I’ve been using live bait/ cut bait/ dead shrimp/ and squid. Also, does anyone know what bait would be good to use the time to use it and the tide to use it in. Any help/Tips would be appreciated- Bill in Florida

I am a single Mom that knows very little on fishing and was looking for information from one of you serious fisherman that could give me some direction and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My 15 yrs old son, is a self taught fisherman and is actually pretty impressive with his knowledge. He has collected/traded many fishing rods trying to get the right one. Over the winter he was able to trade/work and he had finally got his dream rod. (it cost about $350.00) I think he would have slept with it at night if he could.
Sadly, we went to the Pier,- it was at night and my son had two poles and needless to say, his dream rod got stolen. Anyway, he was heart broken and now his birthday is coming up and I wanted to get him a new one although I don’t plan to spend that much and inexpensive reels may not be your forte’, but what would you suggest to get or look for in a pole that cost around. $75.00? Also, we live in Florida, so he fishes in both fresh and saltwater.
Thanks in advance,
Lisa

Hello all and happy mother day single moms! Anyway, I want to fish off a rock pier but don’t know much about fishing there. I just fish in piers. I live in southern California and I’m planning to go fishing in seal beach. I would like what’s good for bait for sharks or any other big fish. I know basics so I’m not that new to fishing, but I just want some good advice/details on the correct way to fish off a rock jetty.
Thanks in advance. SoCal-Dude

I took an early jump on Spring fishing, but recently I have had zero luck. I’ve been fishing when its about 50-60 degrees and hit both the pier and shore. I’ve been using a medium heavy spinning rod and a variety of baits and lures that include: Zoom plastic worms, Tiki wave worms, crank baits of all kinds. I’m doing all this and I still haven’t even got a BITE this Spring. Possibly still to early or what can I do to make my fishing more efficient? If someone here at CupidFish could throw me some tips or even a knowledgeable about angling (more then me) would sure help.
Thanks! KC

It’s cold and thought I’d post a typical day in Florida fishing on the Walton fishing Pier. Great video besides the fact, there are NO rainbow trout in the ocean (lol) the weather looks great …damn!
