Hello all I hope you’ll had a great 4th. Anyway, I received a lot of good tips from some of you before regarding me my daughter and what we were doing wrong on our fishing trips, but now I need a little more information if you could please?
My current problem is we can’t get the fish to take the bait, plus the correct way to set the hook. They fish throws the hook during the retrieve or we just lose it. I don’t know if we are just trying to set too soon, or too late, or if we are just not using the right hook.
We have been using Eagle Claw wide worm hooks and the smaller crappie style as well. I’ve heard circle hooks allow you to land the fish easier, but who knows if this was true? Is there a way to know exactly when it’s time to set the hook? Any suggestions on a hook or setup that will help us land fish?
Bye the way, this time we are shore fishing and going for primarily crappie, largemouth bass, white bass, and catfish Also, if we use a circle hook, what is the best way to set a minnow on it where it won’t be as visible, but still allow the minnow to move naturally?
How hard do you typically have to pull back on the rod when setting for a decent size catfish or bass? What about for the crappie?
Thanks for all the help you’ve given so far, I appreciate it.
Beth
